Wrapped around Table Mountain where the South African coast meets the Atlantic, Cape Town is spread out, so a rental car or ride hailing does most of the moving between the waterfront, the city bowl and the beaches. Hiking, beaches and coastal roads are free, while the cableway, Robben Island and winelands tours are ticketed. Summer runs December to February; winter, June to August, is wet and windy.
