About Darjeeling
Strung along a ridge in the eastern Himalaya of West Bengal, Darjeeling is reached by a long road climb from Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri station, and that shared jeep or taxi leg is a fixed part of any trip. The town is steep but walkable, with tea estates, the toy train and Tiger Hill sunrises as the usual outings. Skies are clearest in spring and autumn; monsoon brings landslides.
