A hill station above Dehradun in Uttarakhand, reached by a short climb from the city, which has its own airport and railhead, so the last leg is easier than for most Himalayan towns. Life runs along the Mall Road between Library and Picture Palace, and much of it is walkable if you accept slopes. School holidays and weekend traffic from Delhi are the crowd peaks; winter is cold and quiet.
