About Dudhwa
Dudhwa National Park is a tiger reserve on the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh, made of sal forest, tall grassland and swamp. It is one of the few places in India holding both tiger and the one-horned rhinoceros, and it is the stronghold of the barasingha, the swamp deer. The reserve includes Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and the Katarniaghat range. Safaris run by jeep, morning and evening, through the Dudhwa, Kishanpur and Sonaripur ranges. Getting there: from Delhi it is about 405 km by road, 8 to 9 hours via Bareilly and Pilibhit; overnight trains run to Shahjahanpur and Sitapur with a 3 to 4 hour taxi on to the park, and the nearest railhead is Palia Kalan, roughly 10 km from the Dudhwa gate. The closest major airport is Lucknow, about 230 km by road; Pantnagar is about 180 km. The park is open from roughly mid November to mid June and closes for the monsoon.
