At the head of the Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh, Manali is reached by an overnight bus or drive from Delhi, or by air to Bhuntar followed by road. Old Manali and Vashisht are the walkable, quieter bases; the main town is busy. It also marks the start of the road towards Lahaul, Spiti and Leh, open only in the warmer months. Snow draws winter visitors, and summer holidays fill hotels.
