Ayurveda in Kerala
Ayurveda in Kerala means a structured period focused on rest, routine and Ayurvedic therapies at a classified centre, with consultation, treatments, meals and often yoga arranged by the centre.
Wellness is not medical treatment. Every fact below is quoted from an official tourism, government or credential body, or from a provider's own published page, with the date we checked it (13 Sep 2026). Prices are published examples, not partner inventory and not a market average.
1.What ayurveda in Kerala is
An Ayurveda programme in Kerala is a residential stay at an Ayurveda centre or resort built around daily therapies, an initial consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, and a routine of meals and rest set by the centre. The formats published by centres range from short packages of two or three nights to rejuvenation programmes of a week; longer Panchakarma-oriented stays exist but must be arranged with the centre.
What it is not: treatment for a diagnosed condition. If you are travelling for treatment of a condition, that is the medical lane, and the hospital and the government decide.
- According to Kerala Tourism: Kerala Tourism lists Ayurveda among the state's cultural traditions and says the state is renowned for Ayurvedic treatments.

Ayurveda : Kerala is renowned for its Ayurvedic treatments and therapies.

- According to Kerala Tourism: Kerala Tourism describes Panchakarma as a rejuvenation therapy of five treatment techniques and Rasayana Chikitsa as a rejuvenation therapy; these are the source's descriptions, not health claims of ours.
Source text, Ayurveda: Rejuvenation Therapy and Panchakarma, checked 13 Sep 2026
Panchakarma is a rejuvenation therapy in Ayurveda. The Pancha (Five) Karma (Action) approach to disease prevention is a combination of five tried-and-tested treatment techniques that revitalizes patients by restoring their physical and mental equilibrium.
Ayurveda: Rejuvenation Therapy and PanchakarmaRasayana is derived from two separate Sanskrit words: Rasa meaning the "basic essence that nourishes the body," and Ayana meaning "path".

2.Who it may suit
People who want a set routine rather than a self-guided holiday; who are comfortable with a daily consultation-led schedule, plain meals set by the centre and limited outside activity; and who can commit to the length the centre asks for. Classified centres keep case records and require doctor examination, so expect questions about your health history at arrival.
Mobility, diet restrictions and any ongoing medication belong in the conversation with the centre before booking, not after arrival. No page can tell you whether a programme suits your health; a qualified doctor can.
- According to Kerala Tourism: Kerala Tourism advises choosing a centre certified by the Department of Tourism, checking practitioners' credentials and scheduling an initial consultation.
Source text, Travel Tips, checked 13 Sep 2026
When choosing and visiting Ayurveda centers in Kerala, ensure the center is certified by the Department of Tourism and that practitioners have valid credentials. Research the types of treatments offered and schedule an initial consultation to discuss your health needs.

4.Why Kerala
Kerala has a state classification scheme for Ayurveda centres, run by the Department of Tourism since 1998 and revised in 2019, and a public directory of the centres it has classified. That makes it one of the few places where a traveller can check a centre against a government checklist rather than a marketing page.
- According to Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala: The scheme was introduced by the state government to bring uniformity of practice to Ayurveda centres serving tourists, and revised in 2019.
Source text, Classification of Kerala Tourism Ayurveda Centres, checked 13 Sep 2026
To forestall any such misuse and maintain a uniformity of practice Government of Kerala has brought out a scheme for the Approval of Ayurveda Centres vide G.O. (MS) 140/98/GAD dated 23-03-1998.
Classification of Kerala Tourism Ayurveda CentresAs per GO(Rt) Number 9/2019/Tourism dated 28/6/2019 and GO(Rt) No.27/2019/Tourism Dated.19-12-2019 Government have accorded sanction for the revision in the classification of Ayurveda centres.

5.Typical program and accommodation cost: published examples
Published examples, in the currency the provider printed, with the date we checked. A tariff on a Kerala Tourism listing is entered by the property owner. What the tariff covers (room, meals, therapies) is stated by the provider, not by us; where the listing does not say, the table says not stated. These are examples, never a market average.
We hold 2 sourced program examples for this page, fewer than the 3 we want before calling anything typical. What is shown is what was published.
| Program | Published price | Stay | Meals | Transfer | Classification or listing | Source |

7.Visa and entry
We have not yet checked India's tourist entry rules against the official pages. Which visa applies, and what it costs, depends on your passport and the length and nature of the programme: confirm on the official portal before booking.
Indian e-Visa portal (Government of India)
- According to Government of India (indianvisaonline.gov.in): The Government of India's e-Visa portal lists attending a short term yoga programme among the purposes of the e-Tourist visa; eligibility, category and fee depend on the passport and must be confirmed on the portal.

8.Food and dietary options
At a classified centre the programme usually sets the meals, and the checklist expects an exclusive kitchen preferably serving Ayurveda cuisine at Gold and Diamond centres. Outside the programme, Kerala Tourism describes a range of cuisines and a traditional vegetarian feast. We hold no sourced meal-price data for Kerala, so the journey block estimates food outside the programme from the destination's daily figure and labels it ESTIMATED.
| Program | Meals included | Food, as the provider describes it | Vegetarian | Vegan |

| All Season Ayurvedic Resort: Rasayana | not stated | Homely Kerala food, South and North Indian dishes listed under facilities | not stated | not stated |

11.How to evaluate a provider
Use the state's own checklist. The conditions below are what Kerala Tourism requires of every classified centre; a centre that cannot show them is not classified, whatever its website says.
- According to Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala: Every classified centre must have at least one qualified doctor with A class registration from the Travancore Cochin Medical Council, and government-approved male and female masseurs.

12.Accreditation and certification: what each credential means
Two different things carry the word accredited here. The Kerala Tourism classification is a state facilities scheme for centres serving tourists. NABH AYUSH accreditation is a hospital quality standard run with the Ministry of Ayush and applies to AYUSH hospitals and Panchakarma clinics that have been through it. Neither is a promise about outcomes. TravelVulture has no verification of its own for wellness providers and does not describe any centre as verified.
- According to Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala: Ayur Silver is the category with minimum facilities and Ayur Diamond the category with the highest facilities. It is a facilities scheme, not a clinical outcome score.
