Kerala is a state along the southwest coast, not one destination, and most trips string together a few bases: Kochi for colonial era streets and ferries, Alleppey or Kumarakom for backwater houseboats, Munnar for tea hills, and Varkala or Kovalam for cliffs and beaches. Distances are moderate but road transfers eat time. Two monsoons soak the state, roughly June to September and October to November.
