About Kochi

Kerala's port city, split between Fort Kochi out on the peninsula and Ernakulam on the mainland, with ferries running between the two. Fort Kochi holds the Portuguese, Dutch and Jewish layers of the spice trade: St Francis Church, the Mattancherry palace, the Paradesi synagogue in Jew Town, and the Chinese fishing nets along the shoreline. Ernakulam is where the business district, the railway stations and most of the mid-range hotels are. Cochin International at Nedumbassery is about an hour out, and the city is also the road head for Munnar and for the backwaters. Rain is heavy from June to September and again through October into December.
