India medical visa: rules, documents and fees by passport
From India's official government pages, checked 10 Sep 2026. We checked 20 passports: 19 have a verified route; for 1 the official sources disagree. Where a fee is shown it is the government's own figure in the currency it publishes.
What holds for every passport
- •Your hospital writes the letter. The application needs a letter from the hospital in India, on its letterhead, with your admission date. Ask the hospital for it once you have a treatment plan. We do not issue it.
- •Up to 2 people can travel with the patient on attendant visas linked to the patient's.
- •Passport valid for at least six months when you apply.
- •On the e-Visa route, apply 4 to 120 days before you arrive.
- •How long it lasts: confirm when you apply. The official page gives both one year and 60 days for the same visa, so we do not state either.
Route, fee and companions by passport
The route a patient uses for treatment, the government fee as the source states it (“Free” where the source publishes no charge), how many people can travel on companion visas, and whether the application is online. Where a fee is “not published”, the reason follows.
Why no government fee is shown: Set by the Indian Mission, so we cannot show it. You will see it when you apply.
