About Kovalam
A beach town on the Arabian Sea south of Thiruvananthapuram, where three coves sit below the red and white Vizhinjam lighthouse and a good deal of the accommodation is Ayurveda rather than ordinary hotels. The residential treatment centres are a short way further down the coast at Chowara, about 9 km on, where a stay is booked as a 14 or 21 night course with a doctor's consultation rather than by the night. Trivandrum airport is the arrival point, roughly 30 to 45 minutes away by road. The monsoon months are the traditional Panchakarma season and the centres stay open through the rain, but November to March is the settled stretch for the beach itself.
